 FAQ

1. Is it hard to buy property in Portugal?

No. The sales process is very fast and hassle free, even for foreigners. The entire contract and deed, called escitura de compra e venda, takes about a month to finish.

2. What taxes are involved in buying property in Portugal?

You will have to pay the Imposto Municipal Sobre, a tax that is placed on all real estate transactions in Portugal.

3. What happens if I can’t personally be present during the sales process?

You can ask your lawyer to draft a Power of Attorney, which will grant the person you choose to act in your behalf. The Power of Attorney should state the limits of that power (what you are authorizing him to do) and the duration (until when the authority is given) .

4. Do I need to hire a real estate agent?

Yes. A real estate agent can help you look for a property and do the necessary research to make sure that the seller is the legal owner of that property. He can also guide you through the real estate process and inform you of the documents you may need to submit. He can also organize property tours so that you can inspect the locations before you sign the contract .

About

Welcome to BuyHousePortugal.net! Portugal is truly an amazing country. There was a time when it was considered one of the leaders in the exploration of the earth. Today, however, instead of sending off ships to map the hidden corners of the world, the world is coming to it. Its tourist and real estate industry is booming as more and more people are either vacationing here or even buying properties where they can retire or rent out.
